耶誕節快到了，有人忙著安排耶誕夜狂歡但有人因生活負擔無暇去想這個節日，
「Do They Know It's Christmas ?」 這首歌就是在這樣的情況蘊釀出來的 ~

1984年，英國知名樂團「Boomtown Rats」的歌手 Bob Geldof ，
親自造訪了非洲乾旱肆虐的伊索匹亞，他親眼目睹飢民困苦的生活，
回到英國之後，在同年11月份發起英國歌手援助飢民的義唱活動 ◢

 

◤ 此舉一出，當時創世紀樂團「Genesis」主唱 Phil Collins ，
看到新聞中伊索匹亞地區人民長期處於飢荒與營養不良而死亡，
率先響應，希望能為他們做些事情，並將團名取為「Band Aid」~
(「Band-Aid」這個字的原意就是受傷時急救所用的「OK蹦」)
而這個英國歌手的愛心組合「Band Aid」就在1984年聖誕節前夕齊聚於錄音室，
錄製 Bob Geldof & Midge Ure 共同譜寫的「Do They Know It's Christmas ?」 ◢

這首歌曲集合了當紅的歌壇巨星除了率先響應的 Phil Collins 之外，
包括 Bananarama、Culture Club 、David Bowie、Duran Duran 、Elton John、
Eurythmics 、Spandau Ballet、Heaven 17、Kool and the Gang、Midge Urge、
George Michael、Thom Yorke、Paul Young、Paul McCartney、Sting 、
Human League、U2 、Queen 等40多位藝人於 1984-11-25 共同灌錄這張 EP ◢

「Do They Know It's Christmas ?」的經典 Music Video ◢

「Do They Know It's Christmas ?」單曲在 1984-11-29 發行後迅速拿下冠軍，
接著於1985-07-13 在倫敦、費城兩地同時進行「Live Aid」巨星援非演唱會，
同時全球各電視媒體也與英美兩地連線同步轉播，當天在台灣剛好是端午節喔 ~
期待了20年，終於在2004年發行了這套「Live Aid」演唱會 4DVD 精裝版 ◢
